Frequently Asked Questions

What must I do before I can learn to drive? You need to hold a valid Provisional Driving License and be aged 17 or over. If you do not have a provisional licence you can get an application form from your local post office or from Key Driver Training.

Why should I use Key Driver Training? We are proud of our instructors, they are all registered with the Driving Standards Agency and they all undergo regular checks and further training by our expert team of instructor trainers. Remember - here at Key we are an established and trusted driving instructor training establishment - not only do we teach people to drive but we even train the instructors! This expertise combined with our modern teaching techniques are your guarantee that you are making the right choice.

How many lessons will I need? This will vary depending on a number of factors, for example - your age, learning ability, and experience. Some people can successfully pass their test in 20 hours whilst others take longer. Please contact us for more information!

I am nervous - will I be ok? Of course! Our instructors recognise that learning to drive can be a very daunting experience. Your instructor will guide and support you and you will learn at your own pace. Soon you will find your nerves fade and your confidence grows!

Do you have female instructors? Yes we do! We are proud to have both male and female instructors working for Key in most of our covered areas. If you have a preference please mention this when you book (or make a note in the comments box at checkout if you book online). We always try to match your instructor to your preferences!

How much do driving lessons cost? We have various options available to you from pay as you go lessons through to driving courses, and even guaranteed pass courses. This information is available via the bookings section of this website.

Do I need to pass my theory test before I can start lessons? No you don’t! Some people prefer to do this, particularly if they are planning to learn to drive intensively, but many people study for their theory test whilst they are taking lessons - this means your driving instructor can give you help with your theory too!

Where will I take my theory and practical driving tests? The DSA have many theory and practical test centres all over the UK. Your chances of passing the test are the same which ever centre you use. If we book your test for you then we will arange it for the most convenient centre for you and your instructor.

What sort of cars do Key Driver Training have? We have a selection of cars including the Corsa, Astra, Clio, 206, 307, C3, and many more. We will advise you what kind of car you will be learning in when you book.

Do you have an equality policy? Absolutely - we welcome everybody regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, or disability (subject to the disability not legally preventing you from driving). All of our instructors must adhere to this policy.
